Water Planning (September 9)

In Virginia, we enjoy incredible water resources with more than 100,000 miles of streams and rivers, over 1 million acres of freshwater and coastal wetlands, more than 240 publicly owned lakes, and over 120 miles of Atlantic Ocean coastline. But there are also diverse and dynamic demands on the Commonwealth’s water resources – ranging from the protection of aquatic life and creating recreation opportunities, to accounting for public consumption as well as the needs of industry. To meet the demands on Virginia waters, we have to work towards both protecting these resources and managing the varying uses for them.

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is responsible for the equitable and sustainable management of surface and groundwater resources for the public, as well as for other beneficial uses. The agency has developed different water planning programs, drought evaluations, and strategies aimed at managing the current and future water needs of Virginia. Join us for a free webinar on Tuesday, September 9th, from 6:30pm-8pm, to learn about the Commonwealth’s water supplies and DEQ’s water planning efforts.

Grants (December 9)

On the lookout for litter prevention and recycling grant opportunities? Trying to kickstart a Citizen Water Quality Monitoring program, but need money for equipment and volunteer training? Mulling over a watershed project, but not sure what funding is available or how to apply for it?

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) can help! DEQ provides and distributes funds for all these activities and more through grants. Join us for a free webinar on Tuesday, December 9th, from 6:30pm-8pm, to learn about grants available within in the Commonwealth and information on how to apply for them. During the presentation, DEQ staff will provide information on how to search for and find grants of interest, walk through the general steps involved in applying for grants, and go over how to access assistance if you have questions. We’ll also dig into grants available from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that DEQ can help with or that require DEQ involvement. And this is your chance to tell DEQ what types of grants you’d like to see in the future!

Can I watch the recording with translated subtitles?

Yes, you can! Follow these instructions to watch our webinar recordings with translated subtitles:

1. Click on the link for the webinar recording, which will open YouTube.
2. Turn on closed captions by clicking on the icon that looks like this.
3. A red line will appear below the icon, indicating that closed captions are turned on.
4. Open the settings by clicking on the icon that looks like this.
5. The settings window will open. Click on the arrow next to Subtitles/CC to open the subtitles menu.
6. The subtitles menu will open. Click on “Auto-translate” to open the language selection menu.
7. The language selection menu will open. Use the scroll bar to find and select your preferred language.
8. Now, when you open the settings menu, your selected language will appear as the target language.
9. Subtitles will now appear at the bottom of the screen.
