DEQ is authorized to conduct regulatory oversight of environmental investigation, remediation and restoration projects at federal facilities in Virginia. Staff in the Federal Facilities Restoration (FFR) Program provide oversight through a collaborative partnering process.
Funding
Funding for the program is provided by the Department of Defense (DOD) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. A total of 43 FFR program sites are funded by the DOD. Thirty-one of those sites are active or former installations, and 12 are Formerly Used Defense Sites, which were transferred out of DOD control prior to October 1986. In addition, there are 13 FFR program sites listed on the EPA National Priorities List.
