Home MenuToxics Release Inventory
Each year, DEQ publishes the Virginia Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) report, as required by law. The Virginia TRI report contains information on the release or other management of listed chemicals and chemical categories, as reported by Virginia industries in specified industrial sectors and by federal facilities located within the Commonwealth. The facilities' reports are also required by Title III of the federal Superfund Amendment and Reauthorization Act, also known as the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act.
The Virginia TRI report is a multi-media report, covering air, water, and waste management activities, and it addresses a variety of handling practices, including releases, recycling, energy recovery, and on-site and off-site treatment and disposal. The 2022 TRI data represents the 35th year of data collection from facilities for distribution to the public and supports informed decision-making by communities, government agencies, companies, and others.
The TRI program continues to fulfill its goal of providing chemical use, release, and waste management information to the public.
DEQ also coordinates with EPA Region III to provide annual training to reporting facilities each spring via webinar (see Resources link).
