Responsible Parties and Consultants are strongly encouraged to follow Reimbursement Guidance regarding establishing a scope of work for cleanup using an AAF, in the event site cleanup costs are eligible for reimbursement. Tank Technical Manual

The Tank Technical Manual provides helpful guidance to DEQ staff regarding investigation and cleanup of petroleum releases.

Note:  The 2011 Storage Tank Program Technical Manual is currently under revision and will be reissued in Volumes that will supersede chapters in the main document. Please be sure to check the list of volumes and their status below. Additionally, standalone guidance exists for Heating Oil tank-related updates and Closure of sites with Free Product; these documents will be incorporated into the appropriate Volume as they are finalized.

Reporting and Characterization Forms

• Category 1 Heating Oil Tank Release Characterization Form: This form may be used only for reporting investigation and corrective actions at Category 1 sites with releases from heating oil tanks with the following conditions:
  • A capacity of 1,000 gallons or less,
  • No impacted water supply wells within 500 feet of the leaking tank
  • No impacted surface water bodies within 200 feet of the leaking tank
