The Yorktown Power Station is located approximately 4.5 miles southeast of Yorktown, on State Route 630 (2347 Wolf Trap Road), approximately ¾-mile north of the intersection of State Route 630 and State Route 173 (Goodwin Neck Road), in York County, Virginia. An ash landfill is situated approximately two miles southwest of the Yorktown Power Station.

The landfill is an existing captive industrial landfill, which is an existing CCR landfill under the EPA CCR Rule.  The solid waste permit (SWP457) was modified in August 2020 to incorporate requirements related to operating criteria, groundwater monitoring, closure and post-closure care, and recordkeeping, notification, and internet posting requirements applicable to the facility in accordance with the EPA CCR Rule.
