Project Description: Appalachian Power Company has applied for reissuance of a permit for the Clinch River Plant. The applicant proposes to release treated industrial wastewater, sanitary wastewater, and stormwater into state waters. The facility proposes to release the treated industrial wastewater, sanitary wastewater, and stormwater into the Clinch River and Dumps Creek in Russell County in the Clinch River watershed. A watershed is the land area drained by a river and its incoming streams. The permit will limit the following pollutants to amounts that protect water quality: Physical and chemical properties, bacteria, nutrients, organic matter, solids, metals, and inorganics. The permit includes requirements for cooling water intake structures.
