Registration is available in ELMS on a quarterly basis. The full schedule is shown below for planning purposes.

Plan Reviewer for SWM (Hampton)

This three-day course is for individuals reviewing SWM plans submitted for approval to a Virginia Erosion and Stormwater Management Program (VESMP) authority or entity with standards and specifications.

Individuals must complete the ESC Plan Reviewer course prior to attending this class. *

Cost = $300

  • Overview of stormwater plan design hydrologic/hydraulic concepts
  • Environmental site design
  • Energy balance method
  • Virginia Runoff Reduction Method and spreadsheet
  • Non-proprietary stormwater BMPs
  • Stormwater plan evaluation strategies
  • Plan review tools and tips

Materials:

  • Purchase a color hard copy participant guide version 5.0 or later from Bamboo Ink or download and print your own copy from ELMS.
  • Download and print Chapter 8 of the new Virginia Stormwater Management Handbook from ELMS or purchase a copy from Bamboo Ink and bring it to class.

NOTE:

  • Participants must have a laptop equipped with Microsoft Excel (2007 or newer).
  • This course is part of a curriculum that contains SWM Online Prerequisites.

* Participants should already have a basic understanding of stormwater runoff hydrologic and hydraulic principles used in stormwater plan design, as well as concepts covered in the erosion and sediment control (ESC) plan review course such as: ESC requirements; ESC law and regulations; ESC plan review; computations for sediment traps and basins, outlet protection, ditches and channels; time of concentration; Rational Method; and Graphical Peak Discharge Method (TR55). These topics provide the foundation that will allow participants to fully engage in this course, relate plan review strategies and tools to plan design, and build on existing skills.
